Chatbot, WhatsApp platform or AI agent: which do you need?

Three kinds of tools get sold as “WhatsApp automation”. They solve different problems, and buying the wrong one wastes money.

1. A messaging platform

Examples: WATI, AiSensy, Interakt. It gives you a team inbox, template broadcasts and basic automation on the WhatsApp API. Good at: sending messages to many people and sharing an inbox. Needs from you: someone to run it.

2. A chatbot

A scripted flow: press 1 for fees, press 2 for timings. Often included in the platform. Good at: answering a handful of repeat questions at any hour. Weak at: anything outside the script, and anything that needs to read or change your other tools.

3. An AI agent

A system that takes a goal, reads your data and does the work across tools: checks the sheet, writes the message, books the slot, files the document. Good at: the work around the message. Needs: clear rules about what it can do alone, and what needs your approval. vv is our attempt at this. It is not on sale yet.

The quick test

Ask yourself what the actual problem is.

• “I need to reach many customers and share an inbox.” → A platform.
• “I answer the same five questions all day.” → A chatbot, or quick replies in the free app.
• “The messages are fine. The problem is everything I do before and after: the sheet, the calendar, the reminders, the reports.” → An agent.
• “I am not sure.” → Do a small audit of one week first. See signs your business depends on you.

Where AI agents are a poor choice

When the job is rare, high-stakes and not repetitive, or when you would not trust a person to do it without supervision. Anything that cannot be undone should stay with a human, or at least wait for approval.

The cost comparison, honestly
