An operational audit is a structured look at how work, money and decisions actually flow through a business. This is how Veritus approaches it, and what you should expect from any audit you pay for.
The usual first findings
These are categories, not statistics. Every business is different, but the same kinds of leak keep appearing.
- Decisions stuck with the founder. Approvals and prices that should follow a rule. See approval limits.
- Slow or missed follow-ups. Enquiries, quotes and dues that depend on memory.
- Information in the wrong place. The same data in a notebook, three WhatsApp chats and a sheet, never reconciled.
- Rework. Jobs done twice because the first version did not meet the need.
- Single points of failure. One person, one phone, one file.
- Tools nobody uses properly. Paid subscriptions with one feature in use.
How a finding becomes a number
A leak is only useful if it is measured. For each one, an audit estimates hours lost, money lost or delayed, and how often, using your records and observation, and states its assumptions. The output is a ranked list: the fix, what it should save, what it costs to do, and what to do first.
What a good audit deliberately avoids
- Selling you a tool. Advice should be vendor-neutral. If the best fix is a checklist, it should say so.
- Vague recommendations. “Improve communication” is not a finding.
- A report that ends on the shelf. You should leave with a short roadmap you can start on Monday.
What it is not
It is not a legal, tax or financial audit, and it does not replace one. It does not guarantee a result: it identifies where the opportunity is. That is why Veritus ties the fee to the findings, with a refund if the audit does not find savings worth more than its fee. The terms are in the Refund & Guarantee Policy.
Is an audit right for you?
If you are founder-led, growing faster than your processes, and constantly busy without a clear picture of why, probably. If your problem is a single clear task, such as sending reminders, a smaller fix may be enough, and we will tell you.
